Dumfries & Galloway Health & Social Care

Providing the right care

Across Dumfries and Galloway, we remain committed to helping people live safely and well in their own homes and communities. Our teams continue to work hard every day to provide care and support to those who need it most.

Like many areas across Scotland, we are experiencing significant pressure on health and social care resources. Demand for care and support at home has increased, and it’s important that we use the resources we have in a way that’s fair, sustainable, and focused on meeting essential needs.

Reviews of care and support take place on an ongoing basis to make sure that each person’s plan continues to reflect their current needs. We’re providing this information so people understand why this work is happening, what it means, and how it may affect them.

Why Reviews Are Taking Place

Work continually takes place reviewing care and support packages for people who already receive help through our services.

This is to make sure that:

  • Support reflects each person’s current assessed needs,
  • Resources are used to meet those needs as effectively as possible, and
  • Everyone across our communities can continue to access essential care and support.

As part of these reviews, some support plans may stay the same, increase, reduce, or come to an end, depending on what is identified through assessment.

For new care packages, there may sometimes be delays before support begins, but we are working closely with local care providers to minimise this wherever possible.

If any changes affect you, we will contact you directly to discuss them and explain what they mean for your individual circumstances.

A Message from Our Chief Officer

“We understand that any change to care arrangements can feel worrying, and I want to reassure people that our focus is firmly on supporting those who need it most.

These reviews are about ensuring everyone is receiving the right level of care to meet their assessed needs — nothing more and nothing less.

Our teams are working compassionately and carefully to make sure support remains fair, safe, and sustainable across Dumfries and Galloway.”
