Carers Strategy 2025-2028

The Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 requires local authorities and health boards to jointly prepare and publish a local Unpaid Carers Strategy. This must show how they will

  • support people in their caring role
  • ensure that their rights are met
  • identify Carers who are not currently receiving support services

The D & G Carers Strategy was approved by the IJB on the 17th of December 2024. The associated Delivery plan was approved at the IJB on the 4th of March 2025. These documents

  • Consider the needs of people who provide unpaid care and acknowledges how much care they provide
  • Reflect what Carers have told us matters to them and the impact their caring role has on them
  • Align with and provides a local response to the National Carers Strategy published by Scottish Government in December 2022
  • Describe how Dumfries and Galloway Integration Joint Board (IJB) aims to support Carers and ensure their rights are upheld/met
  • Highlights the need to establish measures and indicators to monitor progress

The Carers Strategy is available in Easy Read format and other formats are available on request.
