Forensic Applied Psychology

The Service is open to adolescents and adults presenting with problem behaviour related to a mental health condition. This will be severe and impact primarily on offending or alleged offending, has raised public safety concerns and there is significant current evidence of elevated risk of offending.

We work closely with all regional health and social care teams, including in-patients, the secure estate, out of region teams and legal services. We aim to be easy to access and locally available. The services we offer include: Assessment, Consultation and Highly Specialist Psychological Intervention for aspects of:

• Forensic Psychological Assessment and Risk Assessment, primarily for people who offend and are mentally ill, and or have an Intellectual and or Neuro-developmental Disability and/or a Personality Disorder and also with adolescents who offend.
• Psycho-Legal Work
• Mental Capacity and Offending
• Child Protection Issues
• Adult Support and Protection Issues
• Public Protection Issues
• Challenging Behaviour in Legal Context
• Relationship problems (e.g. Domestic violence)
• Emotional problems and Offending

This work can be completed through:

• Direct work with the client
• Advice to parents, carers and professionals
• Training on psychological issues
• We are also involved in service development work.
