The Herbert Protocol

The “Herbert Protocol” Missing Vulnerable Person Incident Form is designed to make sure if someone goes missing, the police can get access to important information about that person as soon as possible. We know this can be a very emotional time for those involved, and being asked by a police officer to recall all sorts of different information can add to this distress. These forms, and the information they contain, are designed to help a rapid and appropriate response.

The form should be completed by the individual(s) who are most familiar with the person named in the document and should be updated as necessary, so that the information is as current as possible. When the form is completed, it should be kept in a prominent position and handed to the police only in the event of the person going missing. It will be used to help the police find the person as soon as possible and nothing more.
