Dumfries & Galloway Health & Social Care

Final Dumfries and Galloway Independent Advocacy Plan (Adults and Children/Young people) and Easy Read Independent Advocacy Plan

There is a statutory requirement under the Mental health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, updated 2015, on local authorities and health boards to ensure the availability of independent advocacy services in their area.

The Mental Welfare Commission (MWC) Right to Advocacy Report 2023 was published in April 2023. It recommends that all Health and Social Care Partnerships have a joint plan, with local authority and NHS Board, in place by 31 March 2024.

In Dumfries and Galloway the Alcohol and Drug Partnership have also been included as partners in the development of the plan.

Following the appropriate governance processes and pending formal approval below are the final versions.
